Women’s Stories

Women Have Options has helped thousands of women afford their reproductive choices. These are some of their stories…

  • Krystal was a 14-year old rape victim whose parents were unemployed. Her family was able to come up with only $50 toward her abortion. The clinic reduced its fee, and we helped her with the rest.
  • Melanie was 25 years old and a single mom of 2 children. She fled an abusive husband in another state and recently moved in with her parents in Ohio. We funded her with $100 toward her procedure.
  • Tricia was 19 years old with a wanted pregnancy. At 20 weeks, the fetus was diagnosed with a condition incompatible with life—at a religious hospital that would not perform an abortion. So Tricia turned to a clinic in Toledo and we helped her pay for her abortion.
  • Ana was a single mom who lived with her parents because of substance abuse and sexual abuse.
  • Jade was 15 years old and pregnant for the first time. Her mother had never been a stable presence in her life, so she lived on and off with her grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Jade’s family explained that both Jade and her baby would have to go into foster care if she were to continue with the pregnancy.
  • Shari worked as a cook in a chain restaurant in northwest Ohio. Although she earned barely more than minimum wage, she paid all her bills without public assistance. She was enrolling in nursing school, so all her extra income was going toward school fees and expenses.
  • Marka was a single mother of three children whose ex-husband had fought her on child support and refused to pay any. Her only income was from a childcare business she ran from her home.
  • Ashley was a single mother of four children, and just went back to school to complete her degree. She has had three C-sections with severe complications and was terrified about continuing her pregnancy. Her friends and family refused to help pay for her abortion.
  • Maria had given birth just seven months ago. She was employed and did not receive any public assistance, but would have fallen behind on all her bills without our support.
  • Lauren, 33 years old, was a mother of 2 children, cared for her disabled husband, and did not have health insurance. Her husband said he was against abortion, so he refused to help financially.
  • Cora was a single mother of four sons between the ages of 3 and 16. She recently moved to Ohio and had recently applied for public assistance. Now that she receives health insurance through Medicaid, she can afford contraception, but needed help paying for an abortion for a child she could not care for.
  • Angela was 23 years old and did not have any children. She had recently been laid off, evicted from her apartment, and had her car repossessed. She was living with a friend and getting back on her feet financially. We were able to help her with $200 toward her abortion.
  • Joni was very far into her pregnancy because she was trying to get the money together to pay for an abortion. Her partner was in jail, and when he was arrested the police took all the money from their home. Joni’s only income was from food stamps, $370 per month. She was moving in with relatives.
  • Nikki drove more than 2 hours to a clinic in Columbus for her procedure. She had saved up all the money she had—but was $15 short because she bought some gas for the drive to Columbus. We funded Nikki the last $15 she needed to afford her reproductive choice.
